The Nets Future is Looking Bright

Updated: Apr 7, 2023

Even with all the anticipation of winning a championship after acquiring Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving have vanished due to all of the star players getting traded within less than a whole calendar year passing, the Nets future is looking upward.

The Nets currently have a team of very exciting players with some surprises as well post Harden, Kyrie, and Kevin Durant era.

Recently acquired forward, Mikal Bridges has been a pleasant surprise averaging 27.4 points per game on 49/41/90 splits and has emerged as an upcoming star in Brooklyn. The ability to score at a very consistent level at high averages while also playing great defense is a wonderful sight for Nets fans.

Some other added key pieces are Forward Cam Johnson, Forward Dorian Finney-Smith, and Guard Spencer Dinwiddie. All very good players at their positions while being reliable has been key in the Nets upward future.

Although Johnson is a free agent in the off-season, he is on a restricted deal so the nets are able to match any offer other teams give him and he seems to be a guy the nets want back, as he’s been very solid on both sides of the ball and has been a positive face in the locker room.

The Nets also have some young players on the roster which include defensive player of the year candidate Nic Claxton and sophomore center Dayron Sharpe.

Claxton has been consistently growing each year with the nets, but this year is like no other. The lanky and athletic Claxton has been adding to his defensive game, being able to guard one through five and a top 3 block per game player, has been a great step in the right direction while also adding to his offensive game, being able to attack the rim and having the second highest field goal percentage in the league.

The sophomore big, Sharpe, has been a recent surprise post all-star break, averaging 6 points and 4.6 rebounds a game in 13.7 minutes per game. Although the stats don’t fully show it, Sharpe has been looking good on both ends of the ball post all star-break.

The Nets have added veteran center Nerlens Noel and 4th year center, Moses Brown to 10 day contracts within a month span in hopes of the sophomore big stepping up and it has worked. Although Sharpe still has other parts of his game that he has to work on, he has been inspiring as he has not been a consistent part of the nets rotation at all this year until post all star break.

The Nets also have a plethora of draft picks after trading Durant, Irving, and Harden having 11 first round picks until the year 2029 and 8 second round picks.

The Nets have shown the ability to draft very solid late first round and early second round players in the draft such as Caris Levert, Jarrett Allen, and Nic Claxton. The Nets having the ability to be in a comfortable spot of having a solid team while having a satisfying amount of picks is exciting.

The Nets have the ability to draft and develop if they want, or could use those picks to acquire another bonafide star if that was the direction the organization plans on heading, so the possibilities are fascinating.

As the Nets approach the end of the regular season, everything seems to be pointing in a positive direction in the near future with the Nets having the flexibility of inspiring talent along with a great quantity of draft picks going into this offseason.
